The UN General Assembly, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, declared 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust, which will also coincide with the 30th anniversary of the celebration of the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan.
The resolution “International Year of Peace and Trust, 2025” was considered on March 21, 2024 during the 63rd plenary meeting of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

Presenting the resolution, the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN, Ambassador Aksoltan Ataeva noted that the resolution aimed at mobilizing the efforts of the international community to strengthen peace and trust between states through political dialogue based on the widespread use of preventive diplomacy mechanisms.
It was underlined that the resolution is a continuation of long-term activities laid down in 2019 through the adoption of the General Assembly resolution on the International Year of Peace and Trust, 2021, initiated by Turkmenistan, as well as subsequent decisions to conduct campaigns to strengthen interstate trust at the global level every five years.
Ambassador Ataeva emphasized that in today’s world, overcoming the crisis of trust and the task of building and maintaining good relations between countries in the spirit of partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation is of particular relevance.
The Permanent Representative noted that the draft resolution “International Year of Peace and Trust, 2025” was prepared after a wide range of consultations between UN member countries, taking into account all constructive opinions and proposals. The document reflects the fundamental goals and principles of the UN Charter, primarily the obligations to resolve disputes by peaceful means and methods.
The resolution emphasizes the International Forum of Peace and Trust to be held in Turkmenistan in December 2025 as the culminating event of the International Year.
The resolution was adopted by consensus and co-sponsored by 86 countries.
