First Neutrality Group Parliamentary Summit joins forces for peace and dialogue

The inaugural parliamentary meeting of the Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development, titled "The Role of Parliamentary Cooperation in Strengthening Peace and Dialogue," convened in Ashgabat on February 15th. Heads of parliaments from the Group’s member countries participated in the hybrid event, fostering collaboration on global peace and security.

Sharing Experiences, Building Partnerships:

The summit aimed to exchange knowledge and expertise on promoting peace and security through parliamentary diplomacy. Delegates explored avenues for effective multilateral cooperation, drawing on Turkmenistan's experience as a permanently neutral nation. Participants discussed strategies for developing communication channels and pooling parliamentary efforts to achieve lasting peace.

Highlighting Neutrality's Role:

Emphasizing the significance of Turkmenistan's neutral status, recognized by the UN in 1995 and 2015, participants commended its practical implementation as an exemplary model for global peacebuilding. The commitment to humanitarian initiatives under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the Turkmen Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was applauded as a contribution to sustainable development worldwide.

Prominent Participants and Key Discussions:

The summit welcomed distinguished guests, including UN representatives, leaders of regional parliamentary assemblies, and parliamentarians from member countries. Mr. Kakha Imnadze, UN Special Representative, and Mr. Dmitry Shlapachenko, UN Resident Coordinator, offered remarks alongside the heads of international organizations and national parliaments from diverse nations, including Belarus, China, Ghana, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Morocco, Qatar, Russian Federations, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan, as well as the Chairman of the Council of the IPA CIS, the Director for Relations with Parliaments and External Relations of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Outcomes and Moving Forward:

The summit culminated in the adoption of an Outcome Document, acknowledging the significance of parliamentary cooperation in advancing peace and security. It reiterated Turkmenistan's dedication to strengthening dialogue and its role as a neutral nation contributing to global stability.
