Issues of expanding cooperation with the International Centre for Transport Diplomacy discussed

On 28 November 2024, a meeting was held at the MFA of Turkmenistan between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Executive Secretary of the International Centre for Transport Diplomacy (ICTD) Igor Runov.

The sides emphasized the importance of the high-level meeting of the Group of Friends for Sustainable Transport in Ashgabat in the framework of the International Conference and Exhibition «International Transport and Transit Corridors: Interconnectivity and Development – 2024».

During the constructive conversation, the interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues of cooperation in the field of improving interconnectivity between the countries by improving transport infrastructure in Turkmenistan and in the region.

It was noted that the priority direction of cooperation is to improve the legal and logistical base of international transport.

As it was stated that being a party to 12 international conventions on transport, Turkmenistan is firmly and consistently committed to close and wide international cooperation in the transport sphere. It was upon the initiative of the Turkmen side that the UN General Assembly adopted 6 resolutions on transport over the past decade.

The sides noted with satisfaction that by advancing the goals of the Ashgabat Process launched in 2016, the country has made significant progress towards the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026-2035).

At the end of the meeting, the Turkmen side expressed readiness for new practical ideas to enrich cooperation in the transport sector.
