ASHGABAT TO DISCUSS INNOVATIVE FINANCING OF THE SDGS

The Yildyz Hotel in the capital hosts a seminar on innovative financing for the Sustainable Development Goals, organized by the United Nations in the framework of the SDG month. The event was attended by the founder of the leading consulting company on financing Stratigos, Peter Vanderval, representatives of ministries, departments and financial institutions of Turkmenistan, as well as the private sector of the country.

The seminar discusses the introduction of innovative methods of financing and attracting investments, special attention is paid to blended funding and investment to achieve the Global Agenda until 2030. In this context, the role of the private sector, as well as public investors, is revealed with specific examples. “We would like business in Turkmenistan, large and small, to know about the Sustainable Development Goals and have the opportunity to participate in achieving them,” said United Nations Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Elena Panova.

She also expressed the hope that private sector representatives will actively participate in the preparation of the first national report on the achievement of the SDGs and its presentation in New York in 2019. In the practical part of the training, the participants, working in groups, discussed the use of “pay for success” mechanisms on investments based on a certain result, as well as on identifying industries in which such mechanisms could contribute to the socio-economic development of Turkmenistan. They also discussed the benefits and examples of social entrepreneurship. – I hope that this seminar will serve as a platform that will lead to new cooperation, will contribute to the prosperity of business, introducing generally accepted standards of sustainable development, said Elena Panova.
