THE PRESIDENT OF TURKMENISTAN MET WITH THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE SHANGHAI COOPERATION ORGANIZATION

On September 15, 2022, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who arrived in Samarkand to participate as an honored guest in the Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), met with the Secretary General of this international organization Zhang Ming.

After exchanging warm greetings, the head of state thanked the organizers of the SCO Summit for the invitation to take part in this important and representative meeting as an honored guest, emphasizing that this fact is considered as a sign of high respect for Turkmenistan and the neutral course pursued by our country.

During the conversation, an interested exchange of views took place on the prospects for further cooperation in the context of its key aspects and the existing diverse potential.

As President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted, Turkmenistan has gained extensive experience in the field of energy and is ready to share it, as well as participate in joint work on the implementation of specific energy projects with the SCO member states.

Expressing his conviction that the implementation of such projects is an example of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the SCO states in the energy sector, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed to consider the possibility of creating an “ad hoc” working group on energy issues between our country and the interested SCO states.

The head of Turkmenistan also voiced a proposal to establish an interim Coordinating Council to ensure coordinated and efficient work in the field of transport.

In conclusion, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming expressed confidence that the next Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization would be another important step towards further optimization of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the SCO countries, a great contribution to strengthening the climate of trust and mutual understanding on the planet.
