Meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea
On June 5, 2023, at the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN, A. Ataeva, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN, met with Mr. Yong min Park, Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs of the Republic of Korea.
During the meeting, a constructive exchange of views took place on the bilateral cooperation of Turkmenistan with the Republic of Korea, as well as the cooperation of the two countries within the international organizations, in particular the United Nations.
During the meeting, upcoming elections of non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for the period 2024-2025, in particular the candidacy of the Republic of Korea, were discussed.
The Deputy Minister noted that the Republic of Korea if elected to the Council, plans to pay special attention to the following areas:
1. Peacekeeping and peacebuilding;
2. Women, peace and security;
3. Cybersecurity;
4. Climate change and environmental security.
Ambassador Ataeva wished Mr. Yong min Park success in the upcoming elections, and expressed hope that the Republic of Korea, as a member of the Security Council, will make every effort to strengthen peace and security both at the regional and global levels.
The Ambassador also expressed gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Korea for supporting the resolutions of the UN General Assembly initiated by Turkmenistan and for the informative statement delivered by the representative of the Republic of Korea during the debate of the General Assembly on May 16 this year on item 61 of the agenda of the 77th session "Zone of Peace, Trust and Cooperation of Central Asia".
During the meeting, A. Ataeva noted that Turkmenistan this year will host the next Ministerial Forum "Central Asia - Republic of Korea", underlining that Ashgabat is determined to continue a mutually beneficial and multifaceted dialogue with Seoul both on a regional and bilateral basis.
