Turkmen Delegation Participates in the United Nations High-level Meeting on Improving Global Road Safety

On 20–21 July 2026, the delegation of Turkmenistan, headed by Mr. Ovezgeldi Kakalyyev, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan, participated in the United Nations High-level Meeting on Improving Global Road Safety, held during the eightieth session of the United Nations General Assembly at UN Headquarters in New York.

During the 104th plenary meeting, the Head of the Turkmen delegation delivered the country's national statement, outlining Turkmenistan's public policy and practical measures aimed at enhancing road safety.

In his statement, it was emphasized that ensuring road safety is one of the priority areas of the public policy of the President of Turkmenistan. In this regard, the delegation highlighted the comprehensive modernization of the country's transport infrastructure, the continuous improvement of traffic management, the introduction of modern digital technologies for traffic control, the strengthening of preventive measures, and the promotion of a culture of responsible road behaviour among all road users.

Particular attention was paid to international cooperation in the field of road safety. The Turkmen side reaffirmed its readiness to further strengthen cooperation with United Nations Member States, relevant international organizations and other partners through the exchange of experience, the implementation of best international practices and joint initiatives aimed at reducing road traffic accidents and improving road safety.

During the meeting, the General Assembly adopted, by vote, the Progress Declaration, reaffirming the global target of reducing road traffic deaths and injuries by at least 50 per cent by 2030. Participants underscored the importance of strengthening national road safety strategies, improving transport infrastructure and expanding international cooperation to achieve this objective.
