TURKMENISTAN INTENDS TO SUPPORT THE UNFOLDING OF OPPORTUNITIES OF THE INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT CORRIDOR “EUROPE - CAUCASUS – ASIA»

Today, on June 10, the meeting of the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov with the Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission of TRACECA Aset Asavbayev was held through videoconferencing.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current cooperation and prospects of collaboration within the Intergovernmental Commission of TRACECA.  Turkmenistan supports the projects aimed at the harmonization of the legislation, enhancement of the tariff policy, institutional reinforcement, and development of the transport infrastructure of the “Europe - Caucasus - Asia» Corridor.

The active role of Turkmenistan in establishing and expanding the transport and transit potential of the region was emphasized.  In this context, it is underlined that the Turkmen side is ready to continue the joint implementation of the relevant documents of TRACECA aimed at the expansion of investment possibilities of transport-transit corridors along “Asia-Europe” and “Europe-Middle East” routes, in particular, the “Lapis-Lazuli” and the “Caspian Sea-Black Sea”. 

The parties expressed interest in the continuation of joint events and profile meetings with the participation of the representatives of the transport sector of Turkmenistan.  The interest of the Turkmen side in the application of international expertise in the area of digitalization and logistics was voiced.  The Turkmen specialists have also participated in the meeting of the Working Group on the development of the Global Transit Document held in December of the previous year.
