A MEETING WAS HELD AT THE MFA OF TURKMENISTAN WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UN DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL AND PEACEBUILDING AFFAIRS

On July 15, 2022, in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, a meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V.Hajiyev and the representative of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) of the UN Secretariat Svetlana Galkina.

During the meeting, the parties highly characterized the cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations in a wide range. One of the promising and not yet fully disclosed areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN is to ensure high standards of electoral processes and assistance in holding elections. In this context, the readiness of Turkmenistan was expressed to increase cooperation with the UN Department for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs.

They also discussed issues of further cooperation to improve the legal framework and strengthen national electoral institutions based on the study and adaptation of international norms, standards and methods, as well as the exchange of experience in ensuring full access to voting tools for people with disabilities, through the introduction of adequate, sustainable, affordable and effective elective technologies.
