A MEETING OF THE MINISTERS OF AGRICULTURE OF THE STATES OF CENTRAL ASIA AND FAO

On May 19, 2020, a videoconference meeting was held between the Ministers of Agriculture of the Central Asian countries with the participation of the UN Agricultural and Food Organization (FAO).
During the videoconference, the heads of the agrarian departments of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan made reports on the development of agriculture and measures to ensure uninterrupted food production in their countries and also exchanged views on the actions taken by the ministries of agriculture of the regional countries to mitigate the negative impact of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic on food security.
The Deputy Director-General, FAO Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia Vladimir Rakhmanin and FAO Subregional Coordinator for Central Asia Viorel Gutsu presented to the videoconference participants the FAO report on the development of agriculture and food security in Central Asia, which highlighted the need to conserve and use sustainable instruments of cooperation between the agricultural and food sectors of regional countries.
In the speech of the Turkmen delegation, the main directions of the state policy of Turkmenistan in the field of agriculture and ensuring food security were presented. The positive experience of Turkmenistan in preventing the spread of coronavirus infection through the preventive measures taken to strengthen phytosanitary and veterinary control at the state borders of the country was noted.
