THE DELEGATION OF TURKMENISTAN TOOK PART IN THE 54TH MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE INTERPARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY OF THE CIS MEMBER STATES

On October 27-28, 2022, under the instruction of the President of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen delegation headed by the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan G. Mammedova visited the city of Samarkand of the Republic of Uzbekistan to participate in the 54th meeting of the Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS) Member States and at various events that took place within the framework of the Assembly.

The plenary session was opened by the Chairman of the IPA CIS Council, Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko. Welcoming speeches of the heads of parliamentary delegations of the IPA CIS Member States, heads of delegations of partner organizations and honored guests were also heard.

The main topic of the meeting was the legislative support of electoral processes, in particular elections and referendums in the CIS countries and their monitoring. At the meeting, it was noted that over the 30 years of its history, the IPA CIS has repeatedly proved its effectiveness, relevance, readiness to adapt to new realities without compromising the quality of work.

During her speech, the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan G. Mammedova noted that regular meetings and dialogues held by the heads of our states stimulate the development of purposeful and mutually beneficial cooperation between our countries in various fields.

She also added that in modern conditions the development of inter-parliamentary relations plays an ever-increasing role in ensuring the harmonization of legislation, the exchange of experience in legislative practice, as well as in strengthening environmental, humanitarian and cultural cooperation. Emphasizing the importance of adhering to the philosophy of "Dialogue is a guarantee of peace", Turkmenistan today is particularly promoting energy and transport diplomacy.

As part of the participation at the 54th meeting of the IPA CIS, a meeting was held between the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan G. Mammedova and the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan T. Narbayeva.

During the bilateral talks, the parties discussed the development of inter-parliamentary relations both between our two countries and within the CIS. The importance of parliamentary diplomacy in the further expansion of state relations was noted.
